Rock & Roll Fantasy Camp Hits UK - First Stop John Henry’s!

Just as we’re approaching festival season, the weather is getting heated, staff getting hectic, equipment flying in and out of the door, what more could you possibly want with a summer? More? Oh, ok. How about having all of our Rehearsal Studios full with budding rock-star wannabies and veteran rock legends including Bruce Kulick (Kiss), Simon Kirke (Free & Bad Co), Mick Ralphs (Mott the Hopple & Bad Co), Spike Edney (Queen), Spencer Davis (Spencer Davies Group), Neil Murray (Black Sabbath & Whitesnake) and Jamie Moses (SAS band & too many to mention) as their tutors.

How about them holding a welcoming event in which 7 bands and the rock legends themselves perform at 10am. No? Still want more? How about visiting superstars and master classes from people such as Jack Bruce, Bill Wyman, Gary Brooker, Jon Lord and Paul Carrack. Step forward Rock & Roll Fantasy Camp – Welcome to the UK, produced and presented by David Fishof.

The opening event took place on the first day of the camp, (24th May 07) and was held upstairs in our ProShop area.

It was almost a "pop idol" atmosphere, with Spike Edney (the head tutor) holding the Simon Cowell role to a tee. Each band with their respective councillor take to the stage to perform a song to the other campers and various highly placed industry people, with a view to giving them a “before” and “after” shot of their progress in the camp.

With performances by all of the competing bands and their respective councillors, to give us a great “before” shot, we couldn't wait to hear the after! The councillors then proceeded to form a couple of “Super Groups” covering some Rock Classics such as “All Right Now” and “Keep On Running”, a treat for first thing in the morning.

Workshops and Master classes from some of the industry’s foremost names made it a week to remember. One of the highlights was a Jack Bruce led Trio made up of Simon Kirke, Bruce Kulick and himself, playing the Cream classics “White Room” and “Sunshine Of Your Love” in Studio 5 to hosts of people in pure awe of the event unfolding in front of them.

The week was rounded off at Abbey Road’s Studio One, where JHL provided a full Production with Sound, Lights, Backline and Technicians for the “Battle of the Bands” competition which showed the progress from day one to five . A great time was had by all. The evening was brought to an end with a rousing version of “With a Little Help from My Friends” with all the councillors and most band members joining in.

All in a week’s work for the guys and girls here at John Henry's...
