| Korg M50 |
|
15 May 2010 |

Added to our backline stock:
The Korg M50 effectively replaces the relatively unloved Korg TR series and incorporates much of the sound generating capabilities of the more expensive Korg M3. A huge step forward in sound generation complexity over the TR series, the M50 is mind bogglingly good value with its richer sounds and drum track. It's also easier to use with its larger, more usable touchscreen interface, which makes the sequencer in particular a dramatically more useful proposition. Further, as well as being a standalone synth & 16 track sequencer, it can also be run as 16 plug-ins in your s/w DAW with little processing load on your PC/MAC.

| The Mackie VLZ3 Mixers |
|
14 May 2010 |

Added to our backline stock:
The ideal compact mixer for home and project studios, the 1202-VLZ3 is equally at home on the road, on the stage, or in the recording studio. While it keeps all the features and functionality of its predecessor, the Mackie 1202-VLZ3 offers even greater headroom versus the original. Mackie have also redesigned the Mix Bus, tweaked the EQs, and created a mixer with a highly intuitive, musical feel.
The Mackie 1604-VLZ Pro has been the long-running favorite of audio professionals the world over for its sound quality, ease of use, and rugged dependability. Designing a mixer to take its place was a tremendous challenge, indeed. But the engineering team at Mackie tackled this head on, creating one of the best compact mixers they’ve ever offered: the Mackie 1604-VLZ3.

The Backline department started 2010 supplying a plethora of TV shows: Alan Titchmarsh, Chatty Man, Loose Women, GMTV, This Morning, The Lottery, Live from Studio 5 and The 5:19 Show. In addition we have also supplied backline throughout the latest Dancing on Ice series.
JHL provided a large compliment drums and percussion for the crème de las crème of Spain’s flamenco talent during the Flamenco Festival at Sadlers Wells last month.
At the end of January, Whizz Kid Entertainment, The Sage Gateshead and Channel 4 brought us the Outside-In Festival - the first “festival” of the year. JHL supplied backline and technicians for the College and Concourse stages. Featured acts on these stages included: Pixie Lott, Scouting for Girls, Taio Cruz, N-Dubs, Erik Hassle, Alphabeat, Marina & the Diamonds and The Automatic.
Pop Star to Opera Star was a new 5 week series which took best selling recording artists to discover if they had what it takes to perform as opera divas. The pop stars were praised or criticized by four judges (Katherine Jenkins, Rolando Villazon, Meatloaf and Lawrence Llewelyn-Bowen). JHL supplied music stands, conductor stands and Perspex screens for the orchestra each week and a Yamaha Baby Grand piano for any guest performances through out the duration.
Following the success of their previous trip last autumn, US rock veterans Lynyrd Skynyrd once again sourced all their backline, risers and guitar radio systems from JHL for their sell-out February run through Europe and the UK. Rumour has it that they will be back again with us before the year is out.
Other recent tour backlines included:the 4 week UK & Europe tour for Ne-Yo, Steel Panther, Bad Company, Joe Perry Project, Wolfmother, Bad Company, Band of Horses, Airbourne, Dennis Locorriere, Grace Jones, Wyclef Jean, Hole, Tim Minchin, Les Claypool, 30 Seconds to Mars, MGMT, There for Tomorrow, Bullet for My Valentine, Reverend Horton Heat, Theory of a Deadman, Flyleaf, Trivium, Motion City Soundtrack, You Me At Six, Dommin, Edguy, Job for a Cowboy, A Day to Remember, Passion Pit, Beverley Knight, Grizzly Bear, Brendan Benson, Tiffany Page, Dead By Sunrise, Fu Manchu, Strictly Come Dancing Tour, Midlake, Ryan Leslie, Thriller (Musical) and OK Go!

| Audio Department |

01 May 2010 |

Just when we thought Terry Wogan had retired and left Radio2, it seems he can’t quite stay away, just yet…
Weekend Wogan, is broadcast live in front of a studio audience from the BBC Radio Theatre for two hours on Sunday mornings. JHL were asked to supply the pilot for the new show with a monitor system for the up and coming guest act Nell Bryden. On the success of this we were awarded the contract to supply and operate the monitor system for the house band and the two live acts each week, along with any additional backline requirements for the guest acts. So far these have included Jamie Cullum, Norah Jones, David Gray, Beverley Knight, Sharlene Spiteri, Craig David, Mick Huknell, Paulo Nutini, Carly Simon and Neil Sedaka, Albert Lee and the Timothy B Schmit band, Mika, Don McLean, Scouting for Girls, Red Hurley & Billy Ocean.
Other projects that have happened over the last few weeks include full production on showcases for the Baseballs, Amaury Vassily, Nikki & Rich, James Rhodes and Katherine Jenkins.
The Audio department continues to provide an excellent service to the last ever series of the BBC’s Friday Night with Jonathan Ross which will end in July. Guests so far this year have included Alicia Keys, Pixie Lott, Editors, Marina & the Diamonds, John Barrowman, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Hole (Courtney Love), JayZ, Sade, Lady Gaga, Plan B, Goldfrapp and Groove Armada.
Your Country Needs You returned to allow the public to vote for the song that will hopefully see us score more than nul points! JHL supplied Mylar mirrors for the rehearsals and provided backline, monitors and audience sound for the main shows.
JHL also supplied a monitor system for the 25th Anniversary show of Newsnight featuring 2-Tone ska band The Specials who were at number one with Too Much Young in 1980, just a few days after Newsnight began. Alicia Keys is very much the R&B princess of 2010 so far and JHL have been with her most of the way. Starting back in November through to January we have supplied backline for her appearances on X- Factor and Paul O’Grady, then audio and backline for a T4 Special, a Radio1 Extra special and Friday Night with Jonathan Ross. Then at this year’s Brit Awards in February we supplied an all white backline for Alicia Key’s and Jay Z’s duet of Empire State of Mind.
Talking of the Brits, we also supplied backline and rolling risers for Pixie Lott, Tinchy Stryder and Ellie Goulding at the Brit’s launch party at Indig02.
In April and May JHL have a lot more projects to look forward to including: Somewhere Over the Rainbow, the BBC's challenge to find the next Dorothy and Radio 2 celebrates work of British songwriters with the Great British Songbook. More on these in the next newsletter.
